Uric acid crystals accumulated in epidermal cells reflect light and makes the skin opaque. (This is a strain without black spots.) |

The skin is translucent because the mutant larvae are not able to synthesize or accumulate uric acid. You can see white fat body inside the skin and green mulberry leaves in the midgut through the center line. |
